Reidar Särestöniemi (1925–1981) depicts in his paintings the fleeting moments of life that are both unique and recurring as the blooming flowers, the fervent passion of the midnight sun or the dread of the endless winter night. Reidar Särestöniemi felt that he was one with nature. He explained that although he was exploring nature, he was simultaneously looking into oneself, and he was looking very closely. He depicted the changing seasons but at the same time he was examining his own thoughts and feelings and expressing them in his paintings and poems. Main exhibiton is changed once a year and introduces various colourful paintings full of life and feelings. In the museum you may get to know the way of living on remote riverside in the family farm build in 1870’s, Finnish exceptional architecture in artist home-atelie and beautiful logwood Gallery. Visit is worth, location is quiet and close to nature, the buildings, local artist Reidar Särestöniemi’s life and his paintings offer overall experience and memories. Museum is located app. 50 min drive-away from Ylläs and Levi.
