Särestö is a unique destination to visit around the year. Welcome to experience the home and work of a well known Lappish artist Reidar Särestöniemi (1925-1981). “In my painting, there is my happiness, my pain, my unfulfilled longing, my whole life” Reidar Särestöniemi Reidar Särestöniemi was the most remarkable Lappish artist of his time. He was inspired by the surrounding arctic nature and its people and stories. In his paintings the spring flowers bloom, the midnight sun is glowing red, the frosted birches stand in the glimmering light of a winter’s day. The embracing bears and seals symbolize love. Colours were the most important element in Särestöniemi’s works. Särestöniemi experimented with variety of different materials and developed his own unique technique proving himself worthy of his epithet, ’alchemist of colour’ Särestö offers peaceful atmosphere with a wide variety of Lappish culture; history, architecture, art and way of living. All this represented with unbelievable true story of Reidar Särestöniemi, a farmer’s son who against all odds achieved succesful career as an artist. Museum area is situated in the middle of nature with it’s changing seasons. Take time, slow down and feel the magic.
