Explore the quiet winter forests of Äkäslompolo and Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park side by side with your own Alaskan husky. After a warm welcome and short briefing, you are paired 1:1 with a husky and fitted with a waist harness. Your local guides, Ciara and Susi, show you how to communicate with your dog, then you set off along snowy forest trails and open fell views at a calm, connected pace – typically 6 to 12 km depending on conditions and the group. Groups are small, with a maximum of 5 guests, so there is time for every guest and every dog. Along the way we stop for photos, rest and hot berry juice with a sweet snack. This corner of Lapland is known for some of the cleanest air on Earth, and the stillness of the forest stays with guests long after the walk. Pick-up from the meeting points or your accommodation in Äkäslompolo. Suitable for ages 14+ with a normal level of fitness. Susi is a veterinary technician who has lived in Lapland for twenty years, and dog welfare is at the heart of every walk. Season January–April, departures at 10:00, about 3.5 hours.
