As darkness falls, we’ll leave the lights of Ylläs behind and head into the snowy forest on snowshoes. We’ll make our way through quiet, snow-covered trees before climbing higher onto the fell, where the forest gradually opens up and the sky stretches wide above us. Along the way, we’ll stop at a traditional kota to light a fire, warm up with hot drinks and grill some sausages. Higher up, we’ll leave the trees behind and step into the open fell landscape, far from the lights of the village and with little light pollution around us. Here, under the wide Arctic sky, we’ll take time to look up and watch for the Northern Lights. The Aurora is never guaranteed, but the combination of snowy forest, open fell and the deep silence of the winter night makes this a very unique way to experience Ylläs.
