Welcome to experience the home and work of a well known Lappish artist Reidar Särestöniemi (1925-1981). Museum area is situated in the middle of nature with it’s changing seasons app. 50 min drive away from Ylläs and Levi. Take time, slow down and feel the magic. We kindly recommend to reserve 1,5-2 hours on site to visit Särestö, there is plenty layers of life and time to explore. The sight includes three different buildings and a café. Ticket sales closes one hour before closing time. There’s a cafe on site serving homemade sweet bun and salty pies. Reidar Särestöniemi was the most remarkable Lappish artist of his time. He was inspired by the surrounding arctic nature and its people and stories. In his paintings the spring flowers bloom, the midnight sun is glowing red, the frosted birches stand in the glimmering light of a winter’s day. The embracing bears and seals symbolize love. Colours were the most important element in Särestöniemi’s works. Särestöniemi experimented with variety of different materials and developed his own unique technique proving himself worthy of his epithet, ’alchemist of colour’ Museum organizes guided tours, art workshops on request changing exhibitions, concerts and other events.
