Orienteering in Ylläs Outdoor Week
Evening orienteering
Ylläksen Rasti will be taking part in Outdoor Week by offering outdoor activities. The orienteering courses also include options for children, so the whole family can join the evening orienteering events!
Courses:
A / 4.5–6 km, B / 3–4 km, C / 1.5–2.5 km, and an extra‑easy D / under 1 km course suitable for children, or other orienteering activities. Start times for the evening events are from 17:00–19:00, unless otherwise announced (night orienteering events).
Orienteers will be guided to the start using orange‑and‑white control flags. Signposting is provided in Äkäslompolo from the intersection of Tunturintie and in Ylläsjärvi from the intersection of Iso‑Ylläksentie. The evening events use EMIT punching. Rental cards (€2) are available from the organizer. Map fee: €8, under 18‑year‑olds €3. Club members participate in the evening events free of charge. Children taking part in children’s activities will receive a juice drink at the finish.

Permanent Orienteering Controls
Both Kaulavaara (2 different maps) and Ski Resort Ylläsjärvi permanent control maps are currently for sale at Sisu Outdoor, Nature Center Kellokas, and JemesSport. You can also purchase permanent control maps at the evening orienteering events. The permanent controls in the terrain are red and white wooden posts marked with numbers. There are about forty permanent controls on the Äkäslompolo side and about twenty on the Ylläsjärvi side. Permanent controls are a relaxed and peaceful way to practice orienteering at your own pace, but they also serve as excellent self-guided orienteering training for seasoned orienteers.
